Huntly Development Trust (HDT) is an ambitious community-owned company and charity working with others to make Huntly and District a better place to live, work and visit. We are member-owned (currently we have over 500 members) and you can join too (see link below). We are governed by 7 volunteer directors and employ 6 staff.
Our current key projects include:
1. Redevelopment of 3 commercial properties in the centre of Huntly. The first of these, the former RBS, is now let to Orbs Community Bookshop. The other two, Number 30 (the former Cruickshanks) and 11 Deveron Street, have advanced redevelopment plans and funding packages.
2. Expansion of the Huntly Travel Hub, an initiative to encourage low carbon and active travel through e.g. electric bike hire, a community car scheme with Co-Wheels and work to promote cycling and walking. This includes work to make the journey to school safer and more attractive, and creating an AB54 path network to improve off-road links between the communities of Huntly and District.
3. Development of Greenmyres, a 25 hectare hill farm, 4 miles South East of Huntly. Greenmyres is a community asset and you are welcome to come and visit. The ‘Ecobothy’, the former farmhouse and its grounds, can be hired for a variety of uses. Or just come for a walk around the site on the newly constructed foot/cyclepath from Huntly to Greenmyres, or on into Gartly Moor Forest. Enjoy the pond, the 5,000 native trees we have planted and admire the 500kW community wind turbine.
HDT is also an active member of the Huntly Town Team.
