Art Road Trip with the National Gallery, in Huntly

Art Road Trip with the National Gallery, in Huntly

By Deveron Projects on 16/08/2024

It’s less than one week until a touring art studio arrives in Huntly, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery in London. Based at Square Deal community hub on Huntly’s Town Square, Art Road Trip will offer a jam-packed programme of free creative workshops and events for all, developed with local partners Deveron Projects.

The most northerly destination on an epic Art Road Trip around the UK, Huntly is just one of two stops the National Gallery is making in Scotland. The Art Road Trip hub will connect Huntly’s communities with the gallery’s world-famous national collection of paintings, and offer lots to get involved with for all ages - from informal drop-in activities, to free creative workshops led by expert National Gallery facilitators on drawing and printing, making installations and creative writing among others.

Alongside the creative workshops, an artists’ programme co-produced with artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, Natasha Ruwona, will offer guided walks, talks and film screenings. These events are accompanied by a talks programme, featuring local experts and enthusiasts who will talk about Huntly’s farming histories and futures.

During Art Road Trip and until the Huntly Hairst (7 September) an exhibition of children’s artwork by 5 local primary schools will be presented in a trail across the town centre in local businesses and shopfronts. With over 150 pieces of artwork developed through the National Gallery’s flagship programme for primary school children, Take One Picture, the exhibition showcases the brilliant creative talents of Huntly's young people. Children from the schools involved will visit their exhibition throughout the programme and participate in creative workshops with the National Gallery’s facilitators.
